Insomnia Treatment by Traditional Chinese Medicine
Chronic insomnia
Chronic insomnia is so horrible that often make people think that is the end of the world, which can not be understandable for those people has nice head hit the pillow sleep. And someone can’t fall asleep are usually with no obvious physical conditions. They just can not fall asleep or sleep one or two hours. The treatment for a patient with insomnia got usually is sleeping pills. This condition would make people break down because they can not concentrate and hardly think, which make them feel like a mummy.
Insomnia treatment from Chinese Medicine perspective
As for Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, insomnia attribute to overuse of five minds, disharmony of work and rest, Weakness of people who have just recovered and the olds, and poor diet.
(1) Overthinking, disharmony of work and rest
Overthinking hurts heart and spleen; Fatigue hurts spleen qi; Rest too much without movement lead to qi stagnation. All those mentioned problems cause spleen dysfunction, lack the source of generating blood and qi, then can not replenish blood for nourish heart, finally insomnia occurs for malnutrition of heart blood.
(2) People who just recovered and the old who are weak
Due to poor natural endowment, acquired disorder, or weakness after just recovery or old age, it causes the heart, kidney and spleen deficiency, both blood and qi are short to nourish heart, or Yin deficiency with excessive heat. All those factors would cause restless and insomnia.
(3) Panic and anger
Panic, tension, and excessive worry gradually lead to chronic insomnia for timidity due to deficiency of heart qi. Or latent anger hurts spleen, spleen stagnation transforms into heat, and flare up to disturb the mind, finally also would cause insomnia.
(4) Poor diet
Spicy, fatty, raw and/or cold food and late-night eating lead to phlegm heat, which invade upward. All those factors would cause restless and insomnia.
