Male infertility treatments from different point of views

There is a very popular parallel between women and soil in Chinese medicine. If the soil is fertile, any plants can grow and thrive and bear good fruit. On the contrary, if the soil is infertile, it is difficult for any plants to grow on it. So the same is true to men. For male infertility, the priority is to improve their physique, which is the soil of the sperm.

From the point of view of modern medicine, a man may have a rare genetic or hormone deficiency which causes infertility. Clinically usually there are two types of male infertility.

  • One is azoospermia, which refers to no sperm seen on semen analysis.
  • The other is oligospermia, which refers to poor or low sperm count.

Given that sperm is the most vulnerable individuals, whose quantity and quality remarkably depend on the health of the internal environment of a man. Furthermore, external toxins and body fluids of pH play a decisive role on the vitality of the sperm.

Thank you so much for writing these articles as my request! I have some questions to you regarding these and Chinese diet. In western medicine world, a man with low sperm count should stay away from hot bath, heat, sauna. How about in Chinese medicine world? My husband is yang deficiency according to his acupuncturist and he recommends him to have warm bath more often especially before sexual intercourse, eat more spicy and black food. I am confused. What do you think?

Can Chinese medicine treat unexplained male infertility? My husband is a bit overweight but overall he has no disease, rare genetic/ hormone or physical history leading to infertility and he is young, not even 30 year-old yet.

    Thank you!

  3. I really admire the power of acupuncture and Chinese medical herbs. My husband and I have been a fun of both in a very long time. I even got pregnant at the age 41 with the help of Traditional Chinese Medicine. We are very happy because now we have a very beautiful baby with the help of TCM. Thanks for the info! I have shared to my buddies in tweeter and ping.fm.

According to Chinese medicine, appropriate warm bath does do good to someone who suffer from Yang deficiency. But please note that warm bath makes sense but the temperature should not be too high. Sauna should be avoided, I am afraid. I think Chinese medicine can treat unexplained male infertility. West medication and Chinese medicine are two totally different knowledge system. For this kind of unexplained male infertility, Chinese medicine has its own edge over west medication.

Thank you for your reply. Chinese medicine has been wonderful and effective to my husband treatments so far. His health overall is very good compare to before starting acupuncture.

We just hope it can bring us a healthy baby soon!

I just have one more question to you…Can my husband just take Chinese herb tea/no acupuncture or vice versa? How is the effectiveness case of my husband? I know some country like in Thailand where Chinese population is very high (where I am from), they treat only with the tea and it works quite well. I and my brother also grow up and be healthy with only Chinese tea/no acupuncture.

I ask this question because acupuncture here in the States especially the area I live and this doctor we go to is very expensive. My husband has been treated by him more than 6 months now.

Thank you again for your knowledge.

  7. Nantana says:

Amy, thanks for your inspiration. I also believe in TCM too and hopefully it will help us like yours:)
I just turn 35 so your story definitely inspired me when you said you were pregnant at 41 with a beautiful baby.

Thank you for your kind words!

  8. Tian says:

Yes, it would be just fine to use herb tea. Actually, for most of the cases, I only use herb tea and the results are just as good. So don’t worry I believe your husband would get better and better soon.
