Herbs that lower blood pressure has long been used in Chinese medicine formulas traditionally. These proven herbs that lower blood pressure include Han Fang Ji (Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae), Gou Teng (Ramulus cum uncis Uncariae) and Lai Fu Zi (Semen Raphani Sativi) etc.

Nowadays high blood pressure is a common cardiovascular disease, the serious complications of which have been one of the leading killers. I believe the same situation ever happened to ancient China as well. From the descriptions of ancient documents, we can find a lot of medical cases on how Chinese medicine treated and lowered blood pressure. Of course, there were no exact words and disease documented as high blood pressure in these medical works. The reason is simple there wasn’t blood pressure reader available for them to get the accurate readings from the blood pressure. However, remedies of Traditional Chinese medicine are based on the syndromes. From the descriptions of syndromes, we can infer that a lot of herbs that lower blood pressure had been found and a lot of experiences had been accumulated in long-term clinical practices.

The following are those common herbs that lower blood pressure.

Han Fang Ji, also known as Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae, is one of effective herbs that lower blood pressure. Han Fang Ji woks to induce diuresis for removing edema and dispel pathogenic wind to stop pain. Modern pharmacological studies have shown that Han Fang Ji contains tetrandrine, which is the main component that makes Hang Fang Ji one of herbs that lower blood pressure.

Gou Teng, also known as Ramulus cum uncis Uncariae, works to tranquilize liver Yang to stop the pathogenic wind and clear heat to relieve spasm in remedies of Chinese medicine. Modern pharmacological studies have shown that Gou Teng contains rhynchophylline and rhomotoxine, which are the main components that make Gou Teng one of herbs that lower blood pressure. The mechanism for Gou Teng to lower blood pressure is to inhibit directly or indirectly vasomotor centers or block the sympathetic nerve or nerve ganglion.

Ge Gen, also known as kudzu root, works to resolve superficies to promote eruption and promote fluid production to relieve diarrhea. Modern pharmacological studies have shown that Ge Gen contains puerarin and its glycosides, which are the main component that make Ge Gen one of herbs that lower blood pressure. The mechanism behind for Ge Gen is primarily to block ?-receptor to lower blood pressure.

Luo Bu Ma, also known as Herba Apocyni Veneti, woks to induce diuresis for removing edema. Its main active ingredient of iso-quercetin and quercetin glycosides can lower blood pressure. The mechanism behind Luo Bu Ma is related with inhibition of vasomotor center and the expansion of the blood vessels.

Huang Lian, also known as Rhizoma Coptidis, works to clear heat, remove dampness and toxicity. The main ingredient is berberine, which makes Huang Lian one of herbs that lower blood pressure. And Huang Lian lowers blood pressure via many ways.

Lian Zi Xin, also known as Plumula Nelumbinis Nuciferae, works to clear heart-fire. Its main ingredient is liensinine, which has short and weak effect on lowering blood pressure. But after it is changed to Neferine, it has a stronger and lasting effect on lowering blood pressure.

Yin Yang Huo, also known as Epimedium, works to warm kidney to strengthen Yang, dispel pathogenic wind and remove dampness. It is its active ingredient of icariin that makes Yin Yang Huo one of herbs that lower blood pressure. Any forms of Yin Yang Huo, decoction, fluid or icariin, can lower blood pressure, especially in lowering diastolic pressure.

Du Zhong, also known as Cortex Eucommiae Ulmoidis, works to benefit liver-kidney and strengthen the physique. It is its main ingredient of propane benzene derivatives that make Du Zhong one of herbs that lower blood pressure. The mechanism behind Du Zhong is to lower blood pressure through direct vasodilatation and inhibition of vasomotor center.

Ye Ju Hua, also known as Flos Chrysanthemi Indici, works to clear heat-toxicity. Its ingredient of lowering blood pressure can inhibit sympathetic nerve and blood platelets. In addition, Ye Ju Hua obtains the anti-adrenergic effect, which can decrease peripheral resistance without reducing cardiac output.

Lai Fu Zi, also known as Semen Raphani Sativi, works to promote digestion to relieve stasis and expel phlegm for descending Qi. It is its ingredients of Mustard Seed glycosides, Cryptocarya ketone and asarone that make Lai Fu Zi one of herbs that lower blood pressure.

There are many other herbs that lower blood pressure in the remedies of Chinese medicine. The list would be longer if I list them all. Although it is not a comprehensive list for herbs that lower blood pressure, they can solve most of the problems about high blood pressure if they are used properly. If you are interested in knowing more about them, just feel free to drop me a note.

A lot people believe that there is some kind of relationship between anger and high blood pressure. Is that true anger causes high blood pressure? The answer to this question, to some extent, is yes. At least it can be justified from the perspective of Chinese medicine.

In my last post of Types of High Blood Pressure in TCM, I have introduced the regular types of high blood pressure. And for the type of Yang hyperactivity, I think it needs to discuss further about it because a lot of high blood pressure in early stage can be presented in the form of liver yang hyperactivity.

Anger is kind of disease?

In real life, as we know that some people are apt to lose their tempers. People around tend to think that they are just prone to outbursts of temper and very few will associate it with a disease. However, Chinese medicine views abnormal feelings such as anger, irritability and depression as part of the scope of the disease.

Furthermore, Chinese medicine thinks that anger or irritability are correlated primarily with the liver, which is caused mainly by stagnation of liver Qi, liver-fire flaring up and overwhelming liver Qi while spleen deficiency. In other words, if there is something wrong with our livers, it would cause the changes on our moods or the raised high blood pressure.

Liver and liver fire

Chinese medicine thinks that liver works as the official of general, which governs conveyance and dispersion and serves as the reservoir of blood. The emotional impacts by liver present mainly in the aspects of adjusting Qi movement and regulating emotions. It is a common sense that liver enjoys fluency and dislikes stagnation. Fury injuries liver, and in turn the injured liver loses the control of emotions, in which the vicious circle finally would worsen the condition of high blood pressure if left untreated.

Liver fire refers to a kind of energy in human body. In the perspective of Chinese medicine, liver is the organ storing the blood and blood is the main storehouse of the main energy. When a person is exhausted, the liver would dispatch the reserved energy from blood. This kind of backup energy is called liver fire in Chinese medicine.

Imbalance of liver and kidney causes high blood pressure

Chinese medicine thinks that the causes of high blood pressure are mainly involved with imbalance of liver and kidney, in which deficiency of essence and blood in liver and kidney is the root cause, while yang hyperactivity, flaring fire, wind swings and turbid phlegm are the symptoms of high blood pressure. In early stage of high blood pressure, the main causes are the stagnation of liver Qi and the flaring up of the liver fire.

The symptoms of liver imbalance include:

Frequent sighing;

Inappropriate anger;

Dizziness;

Tendonitis;

Menstrual pain;

Headache;

Irritability;

High blood pressure;

Distention and pain in the chest and hypochondriac region.

Basic rules in high blood pressure treatments

The treatment of high blood pressure with Chinese medicine should follow the principle of syndrome differentiation to adjust the imbalance between Yin and Yang.

In early stage of high blood pressure, it mainly involves with liver. The commonly seen types are pathogenic fire derived from stagnation of liver-Qi, flaming up of the liver-fire or liver yang hyperactivity, which are syndrome of excess and should be treated with method of clearing and descending.

In medium stage of high blood pressure, it involves with liver and kidney. The commonly seen type is yin deficiency and yang hyperactivity, which should be treated with method of nourishing yin and tranquilizing liver yang.

In later stage of high blood pressure, it involves with deficiency of both yin and yang, which should be treated mainly with tonification accompanied with suppressing hyperactive yang.

In summary, anger doesn’t cause high blood pressure directly. That is to say that anger is not the immediate causes for high blood pressure. However some kind of relationship between anger and high blood pressure does exist. The key is that we have to know well the functions about the liver and kidney first. Anyway, just in case it would cause confusion, I think I need to clarify that the concept of liver in Chinese medicine is different from that of western medicine. As we know that Chinese medicine and western medicine are two totally different knowledge systems.

Although the disease of high blood pressure is not documented in any traditional Chinese medicine books, other relevant symptoms, which mentioned in Chinese ancient literature such as “Head wind”, “Headache”, “Vertigo,” “Liver wind”, “Liver-yang” and so on, to some extent are the modern equivalent of high blood pressure.

Symptoms of high blood pressure

From the point of view of Chinese medicine, the following symptoms can be regularly found on high blood pressure patients.

Headaches;

Fullness in head;

Dizziness;

Feeling heavy in head;

Palpitations;

Insomnia;

Vertigo;

Chest tightness;

Fullness and discomfort in chest;

Stiffness of the neck;

Numbness of tongue;

Pain on lower waist;

Hemianesthesia;

Facial paralysis;

Hemiplegia.

Chinese medicine thinks that each above-mentioned symptom of high blood pressure might have a different etiology and pathogenesis, while different symptoms could be caused by the same etiology and pathogenesis.

Types of high blood pressure in western medication

High blood pressure can be mainly classified into two types, either essential (primary) or secondary.

Essential or primary high blood pressure is the most commonly seen one, which finds no medical cause to explain the raised blood pressure.

Secondary high blood pressure refers that the high blood pressure is triggered by another condition, such as kidney disease or tumours (adrenal adenoma or pheochromocytoma).

High blood pressure, from the perspective of Chinese medicine, is caused by the imbalance between Yin and Yang in human body. Based on this theory, to help new learners and patients to understand the treatment of high blood pressure, usually it can be mainly classified into six types.

High blood pressure type one in TCM: Yang hyperactivity

Symptoms:

Fullness in head;

Headaches;

Red face;

Irritability

Stringy pulse.

Treatment: Tranquilizing liver Yang and clearing heat-fire.

High blood pressure type two in TCM: Yin deficiency and Yang hyperactivity

Symptoms:

Vertigo;

Headaches;

Fullness in head;

Palpitations;

Insomnia;

Bleary;

Poor memory;

Dry mouth;

Red face;

Thready and stringy pulse;

Red tongue.

Treatment: Nourishing Yin for suppressing hyperactive Yang.

High blood pressure type three in TCM: Deficiency of both Yin and Yang

Symptoms:

Vertigo;

Headaches;

Fullness in head;

Cold extremities;

Weakness of legs;

Palpitation;

Bleary;

Hard to fall asleep;

Too many dreams, too little sleep;

Excessive internal heat;

Tinnitus;

Dry mouth;

Red face;

Excessive urination at night;

Shortness of breath;

Bouts of jumpy/twitchy muscles;

Thready and stringy pulse;

Red tongue or pale fat tongue.

Treatment: Nourishing Yin for assisting Yang

High blood pressure type four in TCM: Yin deficiency

Symptoms:

Vertigo;

Cold extremities;

Frequent urination;

Weakness of legs;

Tinnitus;

Deep, thready and stringy pulse;

Pale or fat tongue.

Treatment: Tonifying Yang and benefiting Qi

High blood pressure type five in TCM: Accumulation of turbid phlegm

Symptoms:

Vertigo;

Headaches or feeling extremely heavy in head;

Chest tightness;

Palpitations;

Obesity and lazy;

Eat less and sleepy;

Spit from time to time;

Sputum from time to time;

Fat tongue with white greasy coating.

Treatment: Dispelling pathogenic wind and eliminating phlegm.

High blood pressure type six in TCM: Obstruction of collaterals by blood stasis

Symptoms:

Vertigo;

Headaches;

Palpitations;

Forgetfulness;

Lack of energy;

Blue face or lip;

Dark tongue with purpura or petechia.

Treatment: Promoting blood circulation for removing blood stasis.

The causes of high blood pressure are complicated as well even from the point of view of Chinese medicine. Although the above-mentioned types about high blood pressure are far from a comprehensive way and pinpoint treatment, high blood pressure types in TCM do offer us a map to understand this disease better and locate the treatment for high blood pressure conveniently.

High blood pressure remedies with Traditional Chinese medicine vary from person to person. In other words, even the patients suffer from the same disease, such as high blood pressure, the remedies could be totally different.

From the point of view of TCM, the key is that we have to differentiate the patients’ syndrome first, and then decide which high blood pressure remedies work best for them. That means high blood pressure remedies with Chinese medicine are tailored just for the specific person.

From the perspective of TCM, one-size-fit-all remedies do not exist.

High blood pressure remedies and deficiency Yang

In general, primary high blood pressure is caused by deficiency of liver-kidney Yin and hyperactivity of liver Yang, for which the most adopted remedies are replenishing water (kidney) to nourish wood (liver), and calming the liver to stop the pathogenic wind.

Clinically it is rare to adopt the remedies such as Zhen Wu Tang to lower high blood pressure, which caused by deficiency of kidney Yang inducing water diffusion. To prevent rise to high blood pressure, extreme caution should be exercised when using any types of these high blood pressure remedies. Because warm-natured herbs can assist Yang making blood pressure rise, clinically we have to be very careful during a syndrome differentiation and keep in mind the key presentation of Yang deficiency as follows:

Systemic deficiency-cold;

Or a combination of with dizziness, edema, loose stools and so on;

Feeble and weak pulse;

White slippery tongue coating;

Pale blue tongue quality.

The identification as Yang deficiency should be appropriate if the above-mentioned symptoms occur. In such a case, it makes sense to adopt the high blood pressure remedies with warm-natured herbs.

Why high blood pressure remedies with warm-natured herbs works?

Clinically, the adoption of high blood pressure remedies with warm-natured herbs is aiming at the pathogenesis of deficiency of kidney Yang inducing water diffusion. These high blood pressure remedies warm Yang for diuresis, disperse the haze, excite the heart Yang, control the water diffusion, so that bring Yin and Yang back to balance, in turn blood pressure lowers to normal accordingly.

Although the cases are extremely rare, nothing but high blood pressure remedies with warm-natured herbs must be adopted once Yang deficiency occurs.

High blood pressure remedies and drugs of suppressing hyperactive Yang

Is it necessary to add drugs of suppressing hyperactive Yang with the purpose of lowering blood pressure during high blood pressure remedies with warm-natured herbs? Clinically herbs used for suppressing hyperactive Yang can lower blood pressure as well, such as

Shi Jue Ming (Concha haliotidis);

Mu Li (Ostreae Concha);

Long Gu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi);

Ling Ci Shi (Magnetite);

Dai Zhe Shi (Haematitum);

Zhen Zhu Mu (Nacre concha margaritifera usta).

But during the high blood pressure remedies, it is wise not to use those drugs impairing the stomach, multiple drugs and in large dosage just in case to prevent adverse reactions to spleen and stomach. Cold-natured drugs in large dosage, such as Shi Jue Ming (Concha haliotidis), Mu Li (Ostreae Concha), Zhen Zhu Mu (Nacre concha margaritifera usta) etc., would suppress and upset the stomach, which in turn leads to appetite loss.

Therefore, it is necessary to add appropriate drugs of suppressing hyperactive Yang during high blood pressure remedies with warm-natured herbs. Furthermore, the combination of descending drugs like Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) can complement each other to help lower high blood pressure.

High blood pressure remedies and drugs of repressing liver and clearing gall

Is it necessary to add drugs of repressing liver and clearing gall during high blood pressure remedies with warm-natured herbs? Clinically the using of warm-natured drugs can warm Yang for diuresis to bring back the balance of Yin and Yang, in turn to lower high blood pressure accordingly.

The practice, blending cold-natured drugs of repressing liver and clearing gall into only warm-natured drugs, does not make sense at all. It is very wrong idea too to add cold-bitter natured drugs such as Long Dan Cao (Gentianae Radix) just intended to restrict the dispersing power of warm-natured drugs.

Case of high blood pressure remedies

Huang, female, 49 years old.

The patient has the medical history of high blood pressure. Blood pressure keeps at 170 ~ 190/90-110mmHg. Drugs such as compound Apocynum and reserpine etc. has been used but failed to bring blood pressure back to normal. During past six months, she had the following symptoms:

Dejected spirit;

Dizziness;

General fatigue;

Cold body;

Lower extremity edema;

Less urine than ever;

Appetite loss;

Deep weak thready pulse;

Enlarged tongue with pale moist coating.

From these symptoms, the patient can be diagnosed with Qi deficiency of lung-spleen and deficiency of kidney Yang. The high blood pressure remedies should adopt formulas based on Zhen Wu Tang as follows:

Zhi Fu Zi (Aconiti Radix lateralis preparata)10g;

Hong Shen (Red Ginseng Radix) 6g;

Fu Ling (Poria) 20g;

Bai Zhu (Atractylodis macrocephalae Rhizoma) 10g;

Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix alba) 10g;

Sheng Huang Qi (Astragalus Radix) 15g;

Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) 10g;

Ling Ci Shi (Magnetite) 15g;

Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) 3 slices.

Each dose per day, 2 trial doses first.

After two doses, the patient was getting better and she said there was a very warm feeling all over the body. And other symptoms also improved, such as increased appetite, increased urine, edema going down, blood pressure 150/80mmHg, stronger pulse, thin white tongue coating with medium saliva. Since the drugs took effect, another five doses continued.

After 5 doses, the patient told that all symptoms seemed gone, with blood pressure 135/75mmHg. Then it was time to stop the drugs.

In the follow-up after six months, the patient told that blood pressure was normal and did not took other antihypertensive drugs any more.

High blood pressure remedies with warm-natured herbs works in this rare case, which reminds us once again that primary high blood pressure is not always caused by deficiency of liver-kidney Yin and hyperactivity of liver Yang, and different high blood pressure remedies should be adopted in different people.

Recently, I got to know a new friend, who just suffers from hypertension. He is very young, only 20 years old. It is also because he is so young that he feels very irritable and unable to calm down.

And I had been told that he was from the Northeast China and he was wondering why he would suffer from hypertension in this young age. Then I asked him if many people from his area suffered from hypertension and intestinal tract disease? He said yes.

People from Northeast are well-known for their rich taste, but the habit of high salt intake is one of the important elements led to the high incidence of hypertension and intestinal tract disease. Therefore, it is no surprise that my friend in this young age would suffer from hypertension.

Hypertension is a symptom, not the disease itself

Hypertension, fortunately, is a chronic disease, which does not immediately kill a person. If you correct some bad habits, take in a reasonable of dietary (including supplementary health food), accompany by an appropriate amount of exercise, and maintain mental peace, perhaps you will be able to live healthily and happily to treat hypertension as a friend.

Sometimes it feels like that perhaps God deliberately give the people an opportunity to repent; or give people a hint that the people should take care their bodies since health problems have occurred.

My understanding is that hypertension is a symptom, not the disease itself. Unfortunately, many people treat hypertension itself as a disease, adopting blindly expansion of blood vessels or reduction of the amount of cardiac output to tune the hypertension.

The frustration for the hypertension patients comes from that doctors always told them life-long hypertension medications are necessary once the hypertension medications begin. The worse is that hypertension medications do not rule out the occurrence of complications – this, for a new hypertension patient, is nothing but a big blow!

Hypertension

What is hypertension?

So what is hypertension? First of all let’s look at what is blood pressure? Blood pressure is the momentum to maintain blood circulation, the purpose of which is to transport the oxygen and nutrients into every corner of the body.

According to a balance law, how much blood your body needs, then how much the blood pressure would be raised. The factors that determine blood pressure include cardiac output, blood viscosity and peripheral vascular resistance.

Causes of hypertension

Then what causes the increase of the blood viscosity and vascular resistance? As we all know, the causes are excess triglycerides, cholesterol, salt (sodium) and so on.

Western medicine views that sodium retention would increase the extracellular fluid volume, thus cardiac output increases; increased level of sodium in vascular smooth muscle cells can also lead to increased concentration of cell and calcium ion, in turn to increase vasoconstriction, therefore vascular resistance increases.

Chinese medicine views that salty flavor can cause qi stagnation and blood stasis. It hurts people badly. Just look at the fact that salt brine shapes Tofu instantly, and animal blood cements once salt brine is added.

Salt is a major factor leading to hypertension

Whether it is Western or Chinese medicine, they have one thing in common: salt is a major factor leading to hypertension! Therefore, while we scruple blood fat, do not forget to pay attention to the salt (sodium). The nutritionists believe that 2-3 grams of salt each day is enough, but in order to take account of people’s acceptance, so they suggest 5-6 grams each day.

However, for those people with rich taste, this is a kind of torture! Perhaps, these nutrients of potassium alginate and taurine can bring hope to these people. Potassium alginate can replenish potassium while repel sodium for people of long-term exposure to excessive salt.

Taurine can build a regulating salt mechanism, which can regulate organically the ratio among sodium, potassium and calcium, keep them balance, prevent any element is too low or too high and adverse effects. Taurine can also regulate the blood fat; more important is that without side effects. It is worth a try for people with hypertension.

Western medicine defines high blood pressure according to the number measured, which has nothing to do with syndrome differentiation. The high blood pressure treatment by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), however, is based on comprehensive analysis of data gained by four diagnostic methods, including inspection, listening and smelling, inquiry and palpation and pulse taking. What’s more, TCM uses holistic view as guide to get to know the disease, determine etiologic factors based on differentiation and identify the nature or cause through the phenomenon.

Basic theories in high blood pressure treatment

High blood pressure is the reaction of fighting disease and body adjustment to resolve the stagnation of qi and blood circulation. From the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine, high blood pressure can not be treated at all; instead it can be guided to improve the condition. Regulating our body imbalance based on the holistic view can be the best solution in treating high blood pressure. No precision device and costly medicine needed at all. Thousands of years ago, our ancestors had already showed us how our body works to treat high blood pressure. These theories include Zang-fu Viscera and Channels, Eight Extraordinary Meridians and Midnight-Noon Cycle of Qi. It is marvel that our ancestors can come up with high blood pressure treatment without the help of precision devices. But it is true and it is more realistic and practicable to human body.

Syndrome differentiation of eight principles, Yin and yang, cold and heat are the basic principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in high blood pressure treatment. Treatment aiming at its root causes is always the priority in any diagnosis. Hot limbs, which are far away from the heart, tend to indicate that no blood stasis exists in our body. Cold limbs, on the other hand, tend to indicate that the cold in our body is making blood stasis. And deficiency of Kidney yang is just the cause of inner cold produces. The power of heart comes from kidney. If kidney yang is sufficient enough to supply, all functions will resume working properly. Then heart jumps vigorously, blood stasis resolves and all signs and symptoms of high blood pressure would disappear afterwards.

High blood pressure treatment by Fu zi

In TCM practice of high blood treatment, it only focuses on the signs and symptoms, rather than the blood pressure read by the meter. The symptoms include dizziness, numb limbs, cool limbs, stiff neck, headache, humming ears and angina etc. The blood pressure is relatively higher if it measures when those symptoms occur. But from the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), these symptoms reflect that the yin-yang imbalance of corresponding parts, usually representing that deficiency of qi and blood. Based on the theory, high blood pressure can not be seen as the pathologic subject to be destroyed and the subject to be treated. What we should do is to follow its trend and guide it to work properly to finish the process of fighting disease. Fu zi (aconite root) is, of huge heat nature, a good medicine to warm fire and assists yang. The cold of blood stasis just thaws out like ice when it encounters the fire of Fu zi. Fu zi not only clears all the arterial blood stasis, but also prevents the body from making blood stasis again. Given that this therapy works not only as temporary solution, but also a permanent cure, warming kidney and assisting yang combining with replenishing blood and resolving dampness should be the basic solution in treating cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. It is worth to note that blood pressure would be a little higher, even headache occurs during the therapy. But don’t be afraid of the number read by blood pressure meter. What we should do is insisting therapy till kidney yang restores and blood stasis resolves. Then the blood pressure would be down to normal afterwards.

What hypotensor do to our body

What hypotensor do is to restrain central nervous system and weaken the heart function. The decrease of pump pressure seems that it brings down the blood pressure. But decreased blood pressure renders that vessels and tissues at the end of arteries are lack of blood nourishment over a long period of time. Cold limbs can justify it. Due to the shortness of blood supply, capillary vessels become crisp and clogged. When sufferer is stimulated, heart beat would speed up and blood pressure rise abruptly. The capillary vessels, which lack of elasticity due to shortness of blood nourishment, would rupture and then stroke occur. That is the reason why the number of stroke patients increase year by year and why it becomes the second killer. A few lucky persons were saved, but they are disabled ever since.

Western medicine invented blood pressure meter to coin a newly found disease. They tried everything they could and made up excuses to sell their high blood pressure medicine. This technology, which should benefit health of human being, turns out to be the tool not to allow us a healthy body any more.

High blood pressure is an invented disease

Western medicine tried everything possible to find the disease and then tell you that you are sick and need to take drugs. They just can not accept the fact that you are still healthy. For sake of the interest of medical industry, they must accelerate to destroy healthy people with their medications. Actually the true is that modern medicine or science medicine only spares us about 5% with healthy body. When does disease become the scientific products of the western medicine advance? They update machine, expand building to manufacture as much products as possible. On the contrary those patients are getting worse and the number keeps increasing. Due to the bombard of advertisement, hospitals are already full of patients. So-called scientific research is just a conspiracy by machine manufacturers, drugs producers and hospitals. They work hard to convince that you got sick and keep using their modern theory to distort those natural changes and regular behaviors as diseases. They deduce quiet child as hypochondria and restless child as minimal brain dysfunction (MBD). Those all are illnesses, such as holiday illness, civilization illness, psychopath, strain illness, leisure illness, air condition illness, aging illness, obesity, bald-headed illness, unhappy illness. If you don’t want to go to hospital, you probably got sick with hospital phobia. Now you come to know that you can become sick at all times.

High blood pressure names after the number meter reads, however machine does not know what causes disease and how the disease changes? Doctors are just responsible for those numbers examined. They think diagnosis is just to find what is wrong and then treat it with medications. Hypotensor is taken to control blood pressure for one year, five years, even ten years. The condition is changing; however the medication is the same. It is normal during medication, but same as usual once stopping medication. Worse is that long-term medication has already impaired our health.

Any disease has its changing course. Any condition is changing with the change of time, surrounding, climate, mood and food. Medication also needs to adapt to the development of disease. The use of medication is just to control high blood pressure; actually disease won’t stay still in a specific stage for that. That is the reason why high blood pressure needs to take medication for a long time? Why it still keeps rising once stopping medication? Why it turns out to be more and more people suffering from cardiovascular diseases and dying from it?

The purpose of cure high blood pressure

The aim of medicine is to improve our health. But modern medicine just offers tons of physics and chemistry data. They can deny easily our own immune system’s recovering ability merely by blood pressure index. Medicine turns out to find what is wrong and clear it afterwards. It seems that it controls the condition; as a matter of fact they just use the patients’ ignorance to cloak the severity and let them get worse. They know it well that patients won’t abide by their therapy if patients are not scared to death. Using the fact that patients lack of medical knowledge, they always act as scare medicine. You don’t buy it? Ok turn on your radio, TV set and news paper, and tons of information about medical therapy are waiting for you. They go like this: High blood finally result in ruptured, blocked blood vessels and all kinds of cardiovascular diseases, kidney diseases and diseases of nervous system etc. So high blood pressure is one of the leading causes for killing middle aged and elderly people. Worse is that high blood pressure is also associated closely with high levels of blood lipids and abnormally high blood sugar.

Western medicine is so advanced that they can list all those invented diseases to you. By this way they can scare you, and they can also shed their responsibility easily to deduce the side effects as another disease. The more diseases, the more medications. They coax patients to keep taking medication the whole life. So they can earn money, at the same time to do harm to people. That is the modern medicine’s aim to help people get rid of health.

The outcome of cure high blood pressure

The purpose of taking hypotensor for long time is to prevent and cure high blood pressure. But what is the outcome? Does the number increase or decrease? Here is the data. In year of 2004, 18.8% of residents above 18 suffer from high blood pressure in our country. It is estimated that there are over 160 million with high blood pressure nation wide. Comparing with 1999, the rate up 31%, 70 million people added. Every year over 1 million people die from high blood pressure. The survivor is about 5 to 6 million, among them 75% with somewhat disability, which create a huge burden to themselves and their family.

People taking hypotensor for a long time tends to feel oppression in the chest and shortness of breath, which is the outcome of hypotensor results in vascular atherosclerosis, miocardial infarction and cardiac insufficiency. If it really works to prevent high blood pressure, the quantity of patients should decrease. Ironically, after prevention of dozens of years, cardiovascular disease caused by high blood pressure has become the leading killer of four big killers. And lots of patients suffer from complication. Does it prevent disease or make disease?

The invention of blood pressure meter render a lot of people to measure everyday and take high blood pressure medicine everyday. Taking medication the whole life and scare themselves the whole life. They all become the guinea pigs of western medicine in the end.

From the perspective of Western medicine, two key elements result in blood pressure. One is that the heart contraction pumps appropriate blood to arteries, which is the source of blood pressure. The second is the resistance of the veins. Blood can not stay in veins without those resistance, thus pressure can not produce either. From the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the explanation is far from their western counterpart. The mechanism of high blood pressure is very clear and surveyable from the perspective of Yin Yang and Five Elements.

High blood pressure by Yin Yang and Five Elements
Lung, which is the marquee of heart, hosts breath. Heart attributes to fire and needs the air supplied by lung to burn. The fire of heart works as gasoline pump of train to transport blood and qi to the whole body, and then blood and qi nourish the whole body tissues. Obviously the maintenance of artery blood pressure is to guarantee the normal blood supply and demand to nourish deferent organs. When we catch a cold, the pores are blocked and exterior cold can not be dispelled outside our body. Thus our body is incapable of taking in air needed. Then fever goes up and heart beat speeds up to raise blood pressure for improving blood circulation. The pores are forced to open to vent the cold via perspiration. Afterwards fever goes down and body gets the air needed. By then our body have finished a cycle of self adjustment and blood pressure is back to normal on its own.

Heart beat also speeds up when our body feels tense, fretful and angry inside. Then blood pressure has to be raised to remove blood and qi circulation holdback thus caused. When we feel peaceful inside again, blood pressure would be back to normal on its own.

Heart attributes to fire and need air to burn. Fire goes out if only air supply stops for several minutes. Then heart beat stops with decreasing body temperature. At the same time blood pressure diminishes, even can not be measured. Blood pressure is the energy reaction for our body to obtain air. Heart beat is our instinct reaction of getting rid of the stale and taking in the fresh and exchanging energy inside and outside.

Heart attributes to fire, characterizing flaring up in terms of qi, and sweat in terms of liquid. Kidney attributes to water, hosting taking in qi, characterizing descending in terms of qi. The old or the weak with heart failure tends to be with deficiency of kidney Yang and heart fire. When exterior pathogens of wind, cold, heat, dampness, dryness and fire penetrate into body, Zheng qi (immune system) are incapable of expelling them out by perspiration. Then heart and kidney adjust themselves to speed up and raise blood pressure to increase blood circulation as to expel the stale and take in the fresh air.

High blood pressure is useful tool
High blood pressure is our body’s self adjustment, which is to guarantee our important organs with the necessary supply. High blood pressure is also our body’s reaction to ward off the virus. High blood pressure should be the useful tool and service object for doctors, rather than the object to cure.

Modern medicine considers that high blood pressure is one kind of disease. It induces much critical illness such as stroke, cerebrovascular disease and renal failure. Thus high blood pressure is called an invisible killer.

Let us look back to see how high blood pressure emerged?
The blood-pressure meter was invented as the development of modern industry. Thus diastolic pressure and systolic pressure can be read via blood-pressure meter. At the same time, a standard blood pressure was invented also based on the average number. So if the value measured is higher than the average number, the disease of high blood pressure appears. Ironically the emergence of high blood of pressure was originated from the invention of blood pressure meter, which can read the diastolic pressure and systolic pressure. Western medicine thinks it a continent newly found continent and treat it as the advance of science and medicine. However it is just the normal physical reaction. Since it is a new medical discovery, how on earth high blood pressure produces? As a matter of fact, neither the patients nor the experts and authorities know it well. So high blood pressure, which on earth what brought is not clear, has a scientific explanation—either essential (primary) or secondary. Since no medical cause can be found to explain the raised blood pressure, then modern and civilized diseased becomes an excuse. When does modernization and civilization become disease? Actually so-called high blood pressure is just a coined disease name in order to bring blood pressure meter to the market. What it reads is just revealing certain existing objectively numbers in our body.

High blood pressure is not a disease
According to this theory, it can be pictured that in very near future alike sound wave meter can be invented too. Then football fans attending World Cup need to be careful not to yell so loudly. If your hurrah and scream exceeds the standard value, our Department of Health would diagnose you a new disease of high sound wave. As the machine took many scientists with many years and bucks to develop and approved by FDA, surely it is a very modern and scientific tool. So high sound wave can be classified as either essential (primary) or secondary. Medical therapy to this disease, in turn, will be introduced, including medicine and surgery. Medication tries all ways to restrain you to utter a low, hoarse sound. While surgery, operated by top-ranking specialist, sew your part throat and mouth together. Of course, there come the complications. From your screaming, you can be diagnosed with disorder of cerebral nerve. A computed tomography (CT) should be performed. You jumping heart for yelling indicates that some problem with your heart, etc. One day, when sound wave meter is used in clinical measurement, thus either essential (primary) or secondary appear accordingly. By this way new disease for civilization is found by so-called scientist.

High blood pressure makes us not healthy any more?
People with health common sense should know that the following facts.
-Blood pressure would be raised while working out, back to normal when stop working out;
-Blood pressure would be raised for food stimulation, back to normal when stimulating stop; -Blood pressure would be raised for noise, back to normal when noise disappears;
-The old and people with heart and kidney failure are attacked and penetrated into body by six climatic exopathogens, including wind, cold, heat, dampness, dryness and fire. As Zheng qi is too weak to ward off six climatic exopathogens with perspiration. Then heart and kidney adjust themselves and speed up heart beat to improve blood circulation. The blood pressure would be back to normal after pathogens are dispelled.

But western medicine does not talk about Yin and Yang, not tell apart from wind, cold, heat, dampness, dryness and fire. In treat influenza, antibiotics is always the only medicine to diminish inflammation and bring down fever, no matter the influenza is of wind-cold or of wind-heat nature, of exterior or of interior nature. Exterior pathogens induced to interior causes heart and kidney failure so that Zheng qi is incapable to dispel wind, cold, heat, dampness, dryness and fire outside the body. So-called high blood pressure sufferer is just like weak child suffer from flu every day. The body needs to raise blood pressure to speed up blood circulation to ward off exterior pathogens. Antihypertensive drug restrain the blood pressure and keep those exterior pathogens in body. So that many patients are with symptoms of sore lower back, back ache, palpitation, dazzling, shortness of breath etc. The root cause is that taking antihypertensive drug for a long time impairs the heart and kidney function and finally makes it incapable to dispel pathogens outside the body.

High blood pressure is just a tool
Nowadays, advance of technology makes measuring blood pressure becomes a very easy, convenient job. Drug salesman and machine salesman can be seen to use blood pressure meter everywhere. A conspiracy of machine manufacturers, drug makers, hospitals and dealers turn this meter, which should serve public health, into a tool that create market and squeeze money from the people.

As a matter of fact, seven emotions, including joy, anger, worry, sorrow, fear and shock, and six climatic exopathogens, including wind, cold, heat, dampness, dryness and fire, all is possible to raised blood pressure. And blood pressure meter can not tell what channel causes it. What can the unknown measurement tell us? So-called modern medicine is just a community of interest of machine manufacturers, drug makers, hospitals and dealers, who conspire to explain our health at their will. They define some normal phenomenon as disease and cheat the public with number read from blood pressure meter. Worse is that the wrong treatment causes many side effects and complications, which lead to the tragedy that high blood pressure becomes the NO.1 killer.

The modern medicine is so advanced that it does not allow us to obtain a healthy body any more.
